Going The Distance

Posted by Matt on April 23, 2008. Filed under About Us, People, Sport.

Dear friends, family and supporters,

A huge thank you to you all for supporting me.  Last weekend I did the London Marathon in just over 5 hours.  I could have done it in a shorter time but at mile 14 my hips just locked and I had to walk for a few hundred meters - after a while it became more painful to walk than run so I reignited the 45 year old machine and somehow managed to run to the end.

Everyone should run this race.  It’s the second time I have done it and this time was just as good as the first.  5 hours of people yelling encouragement at you.  Surrounded by people from all over the country, most of whom are running for a charity they have a close link to.  And then somehow you get to the end and someone puts a medal around your neck, someone else wraps you in a foil blanket, they asked me if I needed a St John’s person which I manfully declined - but the point is it’s five hours of personal hell surrounded by love - pain and love both together.  It’s really intense!

The great news is that we have helped contribute about £6000 to the Aplastic Anaemia Trust.  A really worthwhile thing.  They don’t get government support and have a track record of spending money in a really sensible useful way.

For any of you who wish to donate it’s really easy - just click here.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou.
