Sprint has announced the first phone for its 4G WiMAX network, the HTC Evo (previously rumored to be the HTC Supersonic). The HTC Evo phone will run on Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network and also support EV-DO, EV-DO Rev. A, and CDMA. While running on the 4G WiMAX network, the HTC Evo will be the first 4G phone for American users.

In the camera department, the HTC Evo phone has made some improvements over other recent HTC phones. It will come with an 8 megapixel camera, as well as a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera, which can be used for HD video recording. The HTC Evo also has an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) out and is capable of 720p video, which can be viewed on the phone’s 480×800 4.3-inch TFT LCD screen. The HTC Evo phone comes equipped with a kickstand so that you may prop the phone on a surface and watch videos.

The HTC Evo phone’s hardware is the same as the HTC HD2 and also shares the same 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The HTC Evo will run the Google Android 2.1 Operating System, which is capable of smoothly running Flash, something that Apple’s OS has yet to achieve. Running on top of Google Android 2.1 will be an updated version of HTC’s Sense user interface.

One of the more amazing features of the HTC Evo phone is its ability to be used as a hotspot for up to eight devices. When utilized with Sprint’s 4G network (currently available in select markets), the HTC Evo could become a powerful way to connect all your devices to the internet.

The HTC Evo’s memory capabilities will be great for in-phone app storage, as it features 1GB of built-in memory, as well as 512MB of RAM. The phone will also come with an 8GB microSD card, which provides ample space to save the HD video that the Evo is capable of recording.
